A Quiet Reflection
STOCKHOLM DESIGN WEEK 2018
A Quiet Reflection
Looking back, A Quiet Reflection was the catalyst that made Ariake an internationally recognised brand, and laid down the marker of how an unusual exhibition venue combined with astute curation and styling can create unforgettable experiences that live long in the memory.
The exhibition was held in a run-down, 300 square metre private apartment that used to be the residence of the Mexican ambassador to Sweden, located in Ostermalm, Stockholm. The apartment was received in a ‘gutted’ state, requiring the help of Ariake’s designers to clean up the place.
The exhibition featured designs by Gabriel Tan, Staffan Holm, Zoë Mowat, Keiji Ashizawa, Anderssen&Voll, Shin Azumi, and Norm Architects, housed in a contemplative and slow atmosphere that was created with the curation of Hanna Nova Beatrice and styled by the astute eye of Finnish stylist Annaleena Leino. The installation also included lighting by Wästberg and works by handpicked Scandinavian artists, creating a peaceful yet dramatic showcase that celebrated the spirituality of Japanese culture blended with Scandinavian influences.
The venue’s address was not publicly published, but was sent by email to a select group of press and friends of the industry to avoid overcrowding the residential building, and relying on word-of-mouth for the second wave of visitors; feedback from those who came was resoundingly positive.
