The name "Rumee" is a playful blend of meanings, drawing from both Danish and English. Combining the Danish word "rum" (meaning space or room) with the English word "me," while also echoing the sound of "roomie", the informal term for a roommate.​ This bi-lingual play on words evokes the idea of someone you share a home with, a companion that brings a sense of warmth and comfort.
