Materials Intention

LISBON DESIGN WEEK 2024

Materials Intention

Part I of Origin Made's 2024 collection, featuring four new designs, debuted at Lisbon By Design. Each design explored the thoughtful dialogue between contrasting natural materials, embodying the theme "Materials Intention."

Unveiled at the historic Palacete Gomes Freire during Lisbon Design Week, the collection marked Origin Made's expansion into new materials and collaborations while maintaining their commitment to materiality and craft. Gabriel's Alturas Pedestals showcased solid wood construction across three distinct heights, creating robust platforms for treasured objects, while his Nest Lamp and Heirloom Globe Lamp combined frosted glass spheres with hand-turned wood, carved marble, or sculpted metal bases as versatile fixtures that can be wall or ceiling-mounted. The collection also welcomed Norwegian designer Silje Nesdal’s Veil Cabinets, which introduced natural textiles as a focal point through linen sheets inspired by Japanese Noren curtains that serve as doors, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow while offering glimpses of the cabinet's contents.

Each new furniture and lighting piece demonstrated the tension and harmony between natural materials, with Origin Made's expansion into weaving and textile work signalling the brand's evolving material sensibility.
