During Lisbon Design Week 2025, Gabriel Tan presented a poetic dialogue between light, material, and space at Molteni&C's Lisbon flagship store.
The work centred on a guiding theme of “Light as a feather, as it flows, as it follows, as it forms”, a phrase that traced the movement and behaviour of light not as illumination alone, but as something alive, responsive, and shaped by the materials it passes through.
Gabriel's lighting designs formed the core of the installation, alongside Gen Taniguchi's Kago Sculptures which were created from raw Kaiji tree bark from mulberry trees. Three lighting collections: Flag, Obelisk, and Carnation, were each realised with different variants of handmade washi paper from Nao Washi, a family-run mill in Saga, Japan, with over 300 years of papermaking heritage.
